Jan Pienkowski

I have always loved Pienkowski`s illustrations from when my mum read 'Meg and Mog' to me when i was a child. The dark cilloetts are greatly contrast with the bold, block colours. The characters always seemed quirky to me, ie sometimes Mog didnt have arms, just this up side down,pear- shaped body with long drawn lines to represent fur. One other thing that still confuses me is that from a side profile Megs head always was cut in half, showing the background between the lines of her hair.
The drawings seem so simple yet unique.

He has also illustrated a book called The Fairy Tales which i can research to influence and give me ideas for style to illustrate my "Oz" ideas. Maybe i could come up with some cilloett figures to represent my characters with splashes of relevent colour in the background.
He has produced some amazing images which can be appreciated by many ages.

The book of fairy tales based on Brothers Grim illustrated by Jan Pienkowski is amazing. You, the viewer are automatically drawn into the detailed cilloets and brightly coloured background.I have chose to show some imagary that will influence my layout of The Wizard of Oz.

I conclude by saying that all the above will infuence me to produce strong imagary and select the correct colour, composition and style of drawing. I am yet to find my own style but from the above research of work and style will defently help me to create my own.
